Roy Hocking (2004)This quirky short was commissioned by Carlton as part of First Cut scheme and shown on ITV1 on 17th December 2004. The film depicts the lives of a bohemian couple Elijah and Scarlett Collins, as seen through the eyes of the door to their house. It follows their daughter Myrtle from birth to marriage. For this film she composed gypsy-style music inspired by Hungarian folk tunes, featuring live violin, and acoustic guitar. She also used soundscaping techniques for significant moments in the score, using snippets of live instruments. Extract 1This piece of music underscores the marriage of Elijah and Scarlett and the arrival of Myrtle. Extract 2Soundscaping using live violin to underscore a moment of trauma in her life when she sees her grandfather trapped in revolving door. Extract 3Myrtle is now a young woman with many admirers. This romantic music illustrates her receiving suitors at the door before choosing who she will marry. Extract 4This excerpt is from the closing credits of the film as the daughter leaves the house for her new married life and the cycle of life begins again. The music evokes the wild bohemian nature of the family. Light House DVD (2004)Soundtrack to promotional DVD advertising the Light House Media Centre, Wolverhampton.
